Insider tip: Come see us mid-week!

What should I wear to the tulip festival?
What to wear depends on the weather! Check the weather before you come, and plan accordingly. We recommend bringing options and layers because conditions can change quickly. Be prepared for muddy fields or pathways — sturdy boots are always a good idea!
And remember that even if it’s sunny and dry on the day you plan to visit, the tulip fields may still be muddy if it’s rained on the days preceding your visit. Heavy rainfall doesn’t dry in a day, and the fields take longer to dry with prolonged rainfall.
What if it rains at the tulip festival?
Rain is part of spring in Washington, and it doesn’t stop the tulips! The festival is open rain or shine, and the blooms look especially vibrant on overcast days.
If the forecast calls for rain, bring a sturdy umbrella, a waterproof jacket and boots you don’t mind getting muddy. Wet weather often means fewer crowds, so you might enjoy a quieter visit and better photo ops.
For a backup plan, check out our indoor attractions, garden gift shops and cafés in Mount Vernon and La Conner. There’s still plenty to enjoy, even if the skies open up.
Are restrooms available at the tulip festival?
All gardens have portable toilets (Porta-Potties) available. We recommend planning ahead because the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival covers so many acres!
In addition to the gardens, public restrooms are available at all visitor information centers throughout Skagit County. The town of Mount Vernon has public restrooms at Lions Park and Edgewater Park, and La Conner has public restrooms.
Where do I park for the Tulip Festival? Is there handicap parking?
Parking is free at each garden, and each tulip garden has available handicap parking. Please check the gardens’ websites or give them a call to find detailed parking information!
We want to come and see the tulips in June … November … December … February. Are they in bloom?
The Skagit Valley tulips are a bulb crop that blooms only once a year in the spring. We hold the festival in April because that’s typically when the tulips bloom! You occasionally see blooming tulips in late March or early May due to warmer or cooler temperatures. However, you can’t see the tulips outside the spring time frame.
You may find tulips in grocery stores year-round because people can grow them in greenhouses any time of year. Other tulips you find for sale may come from other parts of the world with different climates.
